Who are you as an instructor?

As you consider this question, you may want to ask yourself the following questions:

  • How do you believe students learn?
  • How do you prefer to teach?
  • What is your level of knowledge, familiarity, and comfort with this subject?
  • What are your strengths in teaching?
  • What are your implicit goals and purposes in teaching this course?

If you want to take it further, consider completing the Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI). The TPI is a useful tool for identifying your beliefs, intentions, and actions about teaching and learning.  Once you have completed the TPI have a look at this short summary of the Five Teaching Perspectives.
